Zoo

"Lions and tigers and bears,OH MY!"

All through the month of April, Minnie will help me explore the people, places and things that WE call creepy, strange and downright weird. To be honest, Minnie finds almost everything creepy and strange so having the entire alphabet at our disposal is going to be a challenge. You might find what we discover delightful, or you may agree with us. Please share your opinions either way. Have fun road-tripping the Alphabet by visiting others doing the challenge as well. You can find all sorts of creepy things at the zoo but most of them are not in cages. I feel sorry for the animals that are caged up for human entertainment. The term "zoo" was first used by the London Zoological Gardens, which opened for scientific study in 1828 and to the public in 1847. The number of major animal collections open to the public around the world now exceeds 1,000,000 and around 80 percent of them are in cities. How would you feel if you were put on display in a cage or denied your freedom? I loved the scene in the movie "Five Monkeys" where Brad Pit set all the animals from the zoo free. I admit that as a child I loved going to the zoo and for a brief time I considered a career as a zoologist. Why? Because I love creepy crawlers and things that go bump in the night. Have you been to a zoo? What animal did you love to see? My favorites were the monkeys and the bears.

Last letter of the alphabet and it has been a challenging month for me but I managed to blog every day. I wish that I could have had more time to visit my friends and make some more new ones but my mothers accident and other obligations has consumed my time. I hope to visit you all soon. So did you enjoy the A-Z challenge? Glad it is over or are you a bit sad like me?

Tomorrow is a holiday and hopefully there will be some sunshine, gardening and Barbecue. Hope you all enjoy the first day of May!

Sometimes YOUNGSTERS can be amazing to the point of strange and unexplained. Don't you love getting the chills? Here are some examples

And from Norway:

So today's post may not be so creepy, strange, or weird but for me it is strange that I can still be totally amazed by youngsters
today whether they have talent or not. Do you know any totally amazing youngsters? I know many... Here are some highlights from Banzaicon 5, an anime convention I help my son arrange each year.

X-FILES

Yes, we want to talk more about Aliens and the government because they both are creepy enough to deserve another letter. What we found out is that the truth IS really out there. You can find it where special agents Fox Mulder and Dana Sculley would never think to look--on the FBI's own Web site.

The FBI has been quietly posting documents on the Net about reported unidentified flying objects, alleged alien abductions, and unexplained animal mutilations. More than 1,600 pages dating back to the 1940's are now public on the site, although most contain blacked-out passages and missing names. The Freedom of Information Act have opened up files that may not reveal all there is to know about the possibility of life on other planets, but they give true believers--and even skeptics--a peek at the government's investigations into decades of mysterious sightings.

There are a total of 16,000 FOIA files online, including details about the 1962 Alcatraz Prison escape, Amelia Earhart's disappearance, and the agency's goods on Marilyn Monroe, Pablo Picasso, Elvis Presley, and Bonnie and Clyde. The agency plans to put up to 1.3 million documents on the Net.  "The institutional bureaucracy of the FBI has always been to keep anything that embarrassed the county or FBI a secret," said Dawson Rambo, who runs an extensive X-Files fan site. Andrus of the Mutual UFO Network suggested that the FBI's Web site itself could be part of a bigger government conspiracy. "The U.S. government has lied for over 50 years about UFOs and now no one wants to be put in the position to admit that," Andrus said. "So they have elected to leak the information out gradually. This latest FBI release is just part of that tactic."

One thing that we still have not learned after the freedom of information act has opened up files for the public is, "What really did happen to John F. Kennedy?" It seems that information is so devastating that a whole Generation has to die out before the truth is unveiled. Have you watched the show X-Files? Do you believe we have been visited by an alien life form? What do you think happened to JFK?

They feed on dead flesh What is more creepy than that? Remember those old western films where vultures scooped in to nibble on the poor dying man in the desert? There are some cultures that put a dead person on top of a mountain to let the vultures consume the remains. I don't know about you but the thought of being eaten by a bird or any other animal even after I am dead is just to creepy for words. I guess being eaten alive, having your bones picked slowly by a vulture would have to be the worst kind of death. What about you, what kind of death do you fear the most?

UFO'S

Unidentified Flying Object...UFO...This could mean many things but the first that comes to mind is flying saucer...ALIENS! The idea of a life form more intelligent then our own is scary. Does such a being exist and if so for what reason would they want to visit us "Earthlings?" Books, movies and television have explored UFO'S and Alien invasion extensively. War of the Worlds, X-Files, Under the Dome, Signs, Contact, just to mention a few off the top of my head.Do you have a favorite?I believe that it is a reasonable conclusion that there are other advanced civilizations out there among the stars. Why not? Our galaxy is a new one in the vast space of the universe. Still I find UFO'S and aliens very scary indeed. How about you?

Some people keep these spiders as pets. Although I do not have a phobia of spiders both Minnie and I find them creepy, especially the big hairy ones such as shown in the video below. Do you have any strange kind of pet like a big hairy spider, a rat or a snake? Just too creepy for me!

SATAN

Religion has always fascinated me. I was raised a Lutheran, had no objection turning Catholic in order to please my first husband and his family, and I have researched several other religions including the alternative ones such as Wicca. Religion is a touchy subject and one that has created war more than once. I believe that all positive effects have a negative counterpart. Ying and Yang, an order to the universe and with that said all good must have its counterpart. If you believe in the hero, there must be a villain. If you believe in God there must be a Devil….SATAN.

666 is the mark of Satan, it is also the root number of which represents man, the number 9. Nine is a strange number of which I have written about before. So what is it that I find creepy, strange and weird? If there is a God then there is a Devil. Satan has many names, is one of those names man? Are we really God’s creatures or are we Satan’s? Are we the hero or the villain in the story of the universe? Adam…Eve…Serpent…Apple… Sometimes I wonder if we are all just pawns in an elaborate game between God and Satan. If you believe in one don’t you have to believe in the other? Satan scares me, but then so does God.

Do you have any comments?

There are rats in my brain. They are pretty creepy, strange, and very weird! You are probably wondering how they got there, right? Rats are scavengers and they seem to have found their way into my brain, nesting comfortably and scavenging for thoughts on how to cope with these past few days. My thoughts have turned into rats. Therefore, rats in my brain. Unless you love rats it is a terrible thought isn't? No I am not crazy….Not yet.

My mother was born in the year of the rat and it is my thoughts of her that occupy my brain. I am scavenging for answers that must be made once she comes home from the hospital. This Easter she fell once again on her way from the bathroom to her bed. Lucky for her I was home from work and close by. After a few strange sounds from her bedroom, I checked on her and then found myself rescuing her from the floor. She could not breathe, she was in pain and had no idea how she ended up on the floor. An ambulance drove her away in the middle of the night with a broken rib, a broken vertebrae and a rapid pulse. Now she has developed pneumonia as well.

She cannot take care of herself anymore and the rats in my brain are scavenging for another solution to the one that seems to be the most clear, constant care in a nursing home. I know she needs more help than I can give her, so why does that make me feel like I am rating her out?

Sorry I have not getting around to all my friends. Between my crazy work schedule, Banzaicon and my mother...the RATS have been keeping me busy. I promise to catch up with all of you soon!
I hope YOUR week is void of RATS!

Queen Mary-The Grey Ghost

"You can't keep an old lady down!"

Queen Mary Haunting's

No one loves a good ghost story or haunting as much as Minnie and Queen Mary is a favorite. The luxury liner and World War II transport ship Queen Mary is one of the most haunted places of modern time in America. Queen Mary sailed on her maiden voyage on 27 May 1936 and with the outbreak of World War II, she was converted into a troopship and carried Allied soldiers for the duration of the war. During the war she was named "The Grey Ghost" because of the color she was painted to make her stealthy in war-time waters. Following the war, Queen Mary was refitted once again for passenger service. The ships Queen Mary and Queen Elisabeth dominated the transatlantic passenger transportation market until the dawn of the jet age in the late 1950's. By the mid-1960's the ship was aging and though still among the most popular transatlantic liners, was operating at a loss and finally in 1967 she retired. The ship left Southampton for the last time on 31 October 1967 and sailed to the port of Long Beach, California, United States, where she remains permanently moored and now serves as a tourist attraction featuring restaurants, a museum, and hotel.

In her time, the Queen Mary carried sailors, soldiers, stowaways and wealthy vacationers. It is not surprising she saw her own share of deaths. In fact, there are so many hauntings that some parts of the ship are now barred from the public. But for the para-normally curious there are still haunted tours of the cabins and halls that housed death. During her over 70-year history, the Queen Mary has 49 reported deaths, so there are plenty of potential spirits to haunt her hallways. Reported hauntings include a young crewman in the engine room, swimmers in the first-class pool, a man in black, and a woman in blue. The in-house psychic, Peter James, claims that he has communicated with over 150 separate ghosts on the ship. James gives bi-monthly ghost tours of the ship and claims to have made contact with many different ghosts.

Can't get to the Queen Mary to see the ghosts, here is a link to some images from the Queen Mary GhostCam.

Are the ghosts real? I don’t know, but I sure do love a good ghost story. Have you ever been on a ghost tour, seen a ghost? Do tell!

Hope everyone enjoys their Easter Sunday! Lucky me gets to work...OK, maybe not so lucky. Care to share your plans?

Pakistani Cannibals

Strange, weird, creepy and downright disturbing! A boys head was dug up at the home of Pakistani cannibals who had dug up more than 100 corpses from a local grave sight to snack on.

These two convicted cannibals Arif Ali, 35, and his brother Mohammad Farman Ali, 30 have been rearrested in Pakistan after a young boy's head was discovered in their home. The gruesome discovery of a three-year-old's head was made in the house of Mohammad. The pair had previously served two years in jail for cannibalism. Imagine that! Only two years in jail if you eat your dead neighbor. At the time of their release local police said the two men had dug up more than 100 corpses from the local graveyard and eaten them. Arif and Farman have now been rearrested as an investigation gets underway in to the grim discovery at his house.  Police officers investigated  after residents complained of a bad smell coming from the brothers' home. That is one NASTY kitchen!

Dogs howling at an open door
An owl seen during the daytime
A single crow or raven perched on the house

If you hang a person’s picture backwards, they will have misfortune for the rest of their lives
If thirteen people sit down at dinner, the first one to leave will die within a year
If a single match lights three cigarettes, the owner of one of the cigarettes will die
Turn around or cover all the mirrors in the house or the spirit cannot leave
If you do not turn over the tables or chairs a coffin rested on, the next person to use them will die
Carrying a corpse over a field will make the field barren

Nazca Lines

"Man made? Hmm, I don't think so!"

Nazca Lines

I have mentioned these before and today once again, we are looking at the Nazca Lines; a strange, little creepy and weird artwork in the Peruvian desert. They lay inside a plain between the Inca and Nazca valleys. Across this plain in an area measuring 37 miles long and 1 mile wide is an assortment of perfectly straight lines, many running parallel, others intersecting to form a grand geometric form. In and around the lines there are also trapezoidal zones, strange symbols and pictures of birds and beasts all etched on a giant scale that can only be seen from the air. The forms are so difficult to see from the ground that they were not discovered until the 1930's when a plane flew over the Nazca plateau and saw this gigantic art book. The figures include some 70 animals and plants include a spider, hummingbird, monkey, whale, some kind of being, and a 1000 foot long pelican.

Nazca Spider

The spider just happens to be one of the rarest spiders in the world, so rare that it has only been found in remote and inaccessible parts of the Amazon. How did these primitive people travel so far from their homeland, crossing the formidable barrier of the Andes to catch a specimen? They even duplicated details of the spider’s anatomy, normally visible only under a microscope. The whale and monkey are also out of place in this desert environment. There are 900 forms on the plain. These include straight enormous lines, spirals, triangles, and circles. The longest straight line goes nine miles across the plain. How were they made? Somewhere, someone most likely has a perfectly logical explanation, whereabouts…unknown.

How do you think these got there?

Mirrors

You know those crazy mirrors in amusement parks, the ones that make you tall and skinny or small and fat? I hate them! And what about the hall of mirrors, or the magic mirror from the movie Snow White , do you find mirrors can be creepy? Do you get freaked out by seeing your reflection in a mirror when the room is dark? If you stare long enough at your reflection it gets all distorted and scary. Remember the game...BLOODY MARY? Can you feel the chills just thinking about it? The scariest thing about mirrors though is the old women who is sometimes looking back at me (usually in the morning.)

Killer Ticks

Just the mention of ticks make my skin crawl! I am not a big fan of bugs or insects but growing up in Minnesota I have picked my fair share of blood sucking creatures from my body. Leeches are disgusting but wood ticks are by far the worst. They are not always so easy to spot as they hide in your hair and feast on your blood. I always knew these little creatures were dangerous and could carry disease but now there are killer ticks on the loose in Japan. Watch this video (which I also find creepy) and learn more, that is if you dare!

Do you have ticks where you live? What kind of bugs or insects creep you out?

Jinxed or cursed

"I think my hair is jinxed"
All through the month of April, Minnie will help me explore the people, places and things that WE call creepy, strange and downright weird. Jinxed

The term Jinxed means a person or thing that is believed to bring bad luck. One of the most famous bearers of bad luck was Actor James Dean's 1955 Porsche Spyder.

He had it extensively customized and affectionately called it his "Little Bastard." Apparently, the car was so transparently evil that Sir Alec Guinness, said to Dean over lunch, "If you keep driving that car you will be found dead in it by this time next week." Guinness proved to be right and Dean was killed instantly after his car crashed on September 30, 1955, near Cholame, California.

The jinx or "curse" didn't stop there; when mechanics tried to repair the wrecked car, it fell on one of them, crushing both his legs. The car's new owner sold the engine and driveshaft to two racers; one lost control, hit a tree and died instantly, the other was injured when his car locked up and rolled over. Two thieves who tried to take pieces of the car were both injured. The car was then donated to a safety exhibit of the California Highway Patrol; the first exhibit caught fire, and the car fell on a student at the second, breaking his hip. It even managed to crush and kill a truck driver who was transporting it. The car has since disappeared, but parts of it are most likely hard at work jinxing whoever comes near it.

Sounds a bit like Stephen King's book "Christine" doesn't it? "Little Bastard" has been the inspiration for several works of fiction. Processed or "Jinxed" vehicles are definitely creepy. Here is a list of creepy stories with Jinxed or cursed vehicles:

Christine, a 1983 film adaptation
The Car, a 1977 film about a killer car
From a Buick 8 (2002), another novel by Stephen King about a mysterious car
"You Drive", an episode of The Twilight Zone
Route 666, an episode of Supernatural about a possessed truck.
"Black Cadillac", a 2003 film about a car that stalks its victims relentlessly.
"Sally", a 1953 short story by Isaac Asimov.
"Alice", a episode of Star Trek: Voyager about an intelligent shuttlecraft

Do you know of something or someone that is jinxed? Did you know about "Little Bastard"? Have you seen any of the movies above and do you find them as creepy as we do?

Hope that everyone has a great week-end! Minnie and I will be back tomorrow with the letter K.

Illuminati

"Secret member, who me?"
All through the month of April, Minnie will help me explore the people, places and things that WE call creepy, strange and downright weird. Illuminati

One of the favorites for conspiracy buffs, the Illuminati refers to various organizations claiming to have links to the original Bavarian Illuminati or similar secret societies that allegedly conspire to control world affairs. This is supposedly done by masterminding events and planting agents in government and corporations to establish a New World Order and gain further political power and influence.

Favorite Illuminati Symbol: The All-Seeing Eye.  New World Order Currency: The all-seeing-eye on the dollar bill. Below the illuminati pyramid/eye symbol are the words: "Novus Ordo Seclorum," which can be translated as: "A new order of the ages"

The Serpent promised Adam and Eve that their eyes would "be opened" if they ate of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. The key word in this passage is eyes, which in Hebrew can be translated "knowledge." Opened can be translated "broadened." What the Serpent promised Adam and Eve was that knowledge would be broadened if they ate of the forbidden fruit.

But the most foreboding aspect of this Scripture emerges from the fact that the Hebrew word for "eyes" is not plural, but singular. What the Serpent actually told Adam and Eve was that their "eye" would be broadened by knowledge.

The "eye" that Scripture wants us to consider is not the physical organ of sight, but the eye of the mind or the soul. This singular "eye" is called the "third eye" of clairvoyance in the Hindu religion, the eye of Osiris in Egypt, and the All-Seeing Eye in Freemasonry. (SOURCE: John Daniel, Scarlet and the Beast , Vol. III, pp. 6-7)

So what do you think, are there secret societies like the Illuminati out there? If so do you think they are plotting for a new world order? Sounds a bit "Nazi" to us and definitely creepy.

You might find what we discover delightful, or you may agree with us. Please share your opinions either way. Have fun road-tripping the Alphabet by visiting others doing the challenge as well. Groom Lake

For those of you that wanted to hear about ghosts today you will have to wait...I do have a chilling, creepy story about haunting to tell tomorrow, but falling into the category of strange today is Groom Lake. Groom Lake is a salt flat in Nevada used for the Nellis Bombing Range Test Site airport, but it is better known as the name given to a famous “secret” military base also known as Area 51. There is no beach here and according to the government the existence of “Area 51” has been generally denied, in practice the area is part of an extensive training and testing range run by the United States Air Force.

It is believed that the base has been used as a facility for developing and testing new experimental aircraft and aviation technologies. It is also famously connected to the UFO phenomenon and conspiracy theories suggest that the United States is testing either captured alien spacecraft or new vehicles based on alien technology. The small town of Rachel is located near Groom Lake on the aptly named Extraterrestrial Highway and it is a popular tourist destination. Tours taking visitors to the famous “trespassers will be shot” signs at the very edge of the restricted area 51 are a popular attraction.

Area 51 has been featured in numerous films, books and television shows for many years including movies like Independence Day and shows such as the X-Files. It has become a symbol of government cover-ups and alien conspiracies in modern pop culture.

So what do you think? Are there government conspiracies out there? How much do we really know, and how much do we want to?

Flesh Eating Bacteria

"Pimples can be killers!"

Flesh Eating Bacteria

Did you think that I was finished with ways of showing you how your own body could creep you out? Well you were wrong! There are those monsters that can inhabit our body... Uninvited, they are terrifying and yes, just plain CREEPY!

Leprosy seems to be extinct, today more and more people are suffering from Necrotizing Fasciitis, or NF. This condition occurs most often in people with suppressed immune systems, such as those suffering from a lot of stress, or diabetes. Drinkers and smokers are at risk too. A wide range of bacteria can cause this flesh- and tissue-destroying disease, and NF is becoming more common. About seventy percent of all people suffering from NF—diagnosed and undiagnosed—may die, so CHILL out!

Maybe tomorrow I should save you all from more creepy body facts and find something strange or weird for you. Come back tomorrow and see what the letter G has in store for you. Ghosts? No...that would be too easy!
