Oops I did it again

Voicing my opinions tends to get me in trouble, especially when it comes to my children. They do not like me blogging about they're personal lives. God help me if I ever finish a book that is not about fairy tales. I am writing one, but the thought of getting so personal terrifies me. Maybe some day when I am dead you can pick up my book and read about my life, you know the one that says, "Been there, done that." No, I am not kidding. Ok so maybe a little, because I have never killed anyone. Not on purpose any ways. So, I guess my question to you is...Where do you draw the line? There are so many things that I want to say but I keep getting in trouble. How long do you as a writer, tip toe through life, trying to make every one else happy? So that was two questions. Maybe I should just stick with fairy tales.

Tough question! I only write fiction so that's not an issue for me. But for what I do write, I try to keep a balance of happiness between me and my readers.

Siv, you need to be comfortable with what you write and the characters you create. Take your villain/murderer/evil ogre to the point where you just begin to doubt yourself or get nervous, then stop. You don't have to write the blow-by-blow murder. You only have to bring the reader to that point and their imaginations will do the rest.

If I were to ask my mom that question I already know her answer bcuz I have asked in the past she has told me, "you do what makes you happy. Others do not stress and worry over your happiness" :)
So at the end of the day, you do what makes you the happiest. : )

I'm not a writer but I know I can't write personal stuff about family on my blog (unless it is just outstanding wonderful) b/c it really 'irritates' them. do you use their real names? are you writing fiction or a biography? if it's fiction no one should get so upset.

Hi Siv .. I feel the same and my family are sticky to put it mildly .. but we can write how we feel - just challenging for your children ..

Unless you write it - but don't publish in any way ..

If it's important to you - it needs to be put down ..

With many thoughts - Hilary

My only writing is my blog so I don't have a fictional life I can create. Or maybe I have. My reluctance to be too personal may have created a character that is only part of my reality. Hmmm...I'm going to have to think about that for a while.

I don't mind writing about me, but I try to never write about family or friends. Just easier that way.

I don't think I want to try a non-fiction work; I would blow it, alienate everyone. Confrontation is hard for me. I'll stick with fiction.

I quite often write about my daughters on my blog, but I use nicknames for them and they don't mind. As for my writing, what I write is pretty far removed from anything anyone might mistake as being 'real' to me :-)
