The Troll Inside

Today and tomorrow we are taking a short break from fairy tales.

Before I get started on my original post, I need to bring something to your attention. The fairy tale series that I am posting on now is not my original work. I have merely translated these wonderful stories from Asbjørnsen and Moe into english, and no not using Google translator. I have posted this information previously.  It has come to my attention that some of you may have missed these posts so I wanted to make sure that I told everyone again that these are not my stories, merely my translations. I have made a few modifications that I have found necessary in order to keep the language true. Although this has been challenging the truth is that my posts are also part of my research for a book that I am writing. My book bases its story on Norse mythology as well as norwegian folklore. Your feedback has been very important to me, so thank you, please keep your comments coming!

As most of you that follow my blog know, I am using the month of June to Burrow down and complete at least 50,000 words on my first fantasy novel. Writing has always been my hobby but I have never published anything other than a few poems. In the past few months I have heard so many terms used by seasoned professionals. I must admit that I have no idea what they are talking about and the world of a professional writer is as foreign to me as any unknown language I might encounter. This is a new journey for me and one that I am willing to share with you. So here is a teaser of my first ever book.

Working title: The Troll Inside:

---"When I was a little girl my father used to sit me on his lap and tell me fairy tales. He never read from a book, but I did not need pictures to make his stories more real. I didn’t know it then, but the world he told me tales about, was part of a world that I belonged to. You see I may look human, but I am part troll and this is my story."----

Shortly after her father dies Mathilda, better known as Mattie, finds out about a secret chest, a chest that is buried underneath an Ash tree in her garden. Once she discovers how to find and open this chest, her life is changed forever. Mattie discovers her fathers secrets which cast her into a world full of dangerous creatures, mighty warriors and perils beyond her belief. Her fathers fairy tales were to become not only her legacy, but a guide line to survival and a map to the world she was about to enter...

So what do you guys think?

I like the idea of the father's tales acting as a sort of road map to guide her journey.

Wonderful "what if", and I love Mathilda's heritage & inheritance. Can't wait to see more develop.

Translations are just as important as any other writing, as it is original in the sense that it is the translators interpretation, and it is a way to share great writing to readers who would not normally read the work. Translations are both unique and altruistic.

Well, Sis,

I think you're onto something original and marketable. The premise is unique and fun. I love it. When it's done I hope you'll let me illustrate for you....

The best of luck...

Your American Bro.
