Games Blogfest

Going to leave this post up a couple of days, back to fairy tales on Wednesday.

Alex Cavanah has come up with another fun blogfest for us to enjoy. It’s All Fun and Games Blogfest

Just list your three most favorite games and why. Any kind of game including but not limited to; Board games, card games, RPG, video games, physical games, drinking games - even mind games! If it’s a game you enjoy playing, this is the time to share. Join us in the fun!

So as for me, I am definitely a board game kind of girl. Never really been much into video games, the controls always made me crazy.

Trivial Pusuit

When I moved to Norway 27 years ago there was one thing in my suitcase that I had to have with me. It weighed a ton, but that did not matter. Clothes could make room for my Trivial Pursuit game. Lucky for me I did take it with me. All games here are in Norwegian, and since I did not speak the language then, or know any of the norwegian pop culture questions, not to mention the other "Norwegian" very foreign categories, this made me very "Game" lost. So why is this game important to me? I had a friend with me in a foreign country, a piece of America that I could always take out and play, making me feel for a little while as if I was home.

Monopoly

This is the game I grew up, one of the only ones that would keep us occupied for hours without watching the TV. The norwegian version is a bit different when it comes to names of streets and such, but the tradition of playing monopoly with my own family as given us hours of fun, and actually still does.

SimCity

How great is it to build you own town, well I can tell you I got so addicted to this game and the following Sim additions that I left this world completely. I guess you can say I am a recovering Simaholic and I should be attending SAA.

College included alot of charades, drinking games and strip poker. Games have changed alot. Many you can play online or even on your telephone. For me, games should be played with friends or family around a table. They should encourage discussion, teach us fair play and just be plain old fun. Call me old fashioned.

Great games! I am horrible at trivial pursuit. My mind just goes blank. Monopoly is in my top 5 but sadly I never win and I have no idea what a SIM is lol.

Monopoly seems to be a favorite so far amongst the participants. I really like Trivial Pursuit, though it's been years since I actually played. I wish they had a version of it for rock music trivia!

Trivial Pursuit is one of the greatest games ever! We could always get away with staying up later because it was considered an "educational" type game. Sadly, my son took it away to college with him and it disappeared into a black hole AKA his dorm room. :(

Oh I love Monopoly! I have to be the little dog whenever I play and I always love being a maniacal builder.

I love the first two as well. I've never played Sim...because I figured it would be addictive just as you said and I don't have time to get addicted. It's hard enough to find time to write.

Trivial Pursuit and Sim are two great ones. Monopoly never did it for me -- maybe that's why I never got rich.

That's cool Trivia Pursuit was your companion. And I bet it did weigh down the suitcase a bit.
Thanks for participating in the blogfest!

Hi, my name is Jeffrey, and I'm a recovering Simoholic who has unfortunately relapsed as of late.

Great stuff! Thanks for sharing!

Great pics. I wish I was good at Trivial Pursuit, but I'm not. Well Star Wars Trivial Pursuit I'm pretty good at. LOL. I'm a new follower from the blogfest.

I can totally see that 'slice of America' thing being helpful when most stuff is so foreign. And I keep seeing Simms... but I keep resisting...

My kinda gal! We played board games all the time. I have an entire closet full of them that we pull out periodically. My new favorite is Blockus. It is sooo addicting.

I'm glad Trivial Pursuit was like a security blanket for you when you moved. That's a great comfort. I like the original version best.
Cheers!

A few months ago I played Monopoly for the first time. I'll never be the same; IT WAS AWESOME LOL!

I love scrabble the best though. Great picks.

Love your choices but I've never built a city before. Board games are so cool and great for families to play together.

I could so relate to your profile - I'm also over a certain age and feel lilke a teenager inside...funny how that is, but I'm glad it is!

Great games! :) I love Monopoly but it's been a little while since I last played it.

I agree--the best kind of games is one you can play with friends and family. ;) It's nice to meet you.

I agree - games should be played with friends and family, but I have been known to get a little addicted to solitaire. :)

LOVE Trivia Pursuit, have to admit I groan if anyone pulls out the Monopoly game - it's like cricket, it goes on foreveeeeer.
On my blog you asked about Cluedo - I had to check, but yes in the States it's called Clue. Loads of accusing fun.

I miss playing my SimCity. I had it for the Super Nintendo, and when I let someone borrow it, I suspect he sold it to a pawn shop for money.

Thanks for mentioning SimCity. I so should have listed that in my top 3. I played that game so much, and then SC3000 and 4 as well.

Your comment made me laugh my butt off today. Which is good since that's what I'm looking to do anyway. I embrace the blond. It hides the grey lol
