Another first Wednesday of the month, proving once again
just how fast time flies. As usual my blog calendar is marked off for the
Insecure Writers Support Group, and this month Minnie has some words of wisdom
(Minnie-isms) to share with you. I do not always agree with Minnie but one
thing is for sure, she is the least insecure “person” I know of.
If you don't like what you are doing than don't do it! |
Rules of Being a Writer by Minnie:
1.
Be true to yourself. There is no point in trying
to be a copycat.
2.
Dress yourself in the style you are comfortable
in, not what others tell you. This is YOUR fashion statement!
3.
Go somewhere new and exciting every day, even if
it is only in your mind.
4.
If you are going to write bullshit then you
should be prepared to get bullshit back. In other words, be prepared. Know what
you are writing about.
5.
Not everyone is going to like you. Who cares?
You don’t like everyone either! There is always someone out there that will
like what you write, so don’t give up looking.
6.
If the water is too deep then learn how to swim.
Don’t be afraid to ask for help or learn a new skill.
7.
Practice makes perfect. Don’t expect a magic
genie to appear and do all your work for you.
8.
Sometimes you have to stop and smell the roses. How
you get to the finish line is more important than when you get there.
9.
Too many weeds strangle a garden. Get rid of
weedy words and unnecessary flourish so the reader can better enjoy his journey
through your story without getting Poison Ivy.
10.
Remember there is always a beginning, middle and
an end. Stay on the path and don’t get distracted. Most of all….WRITE!

Now that Minnie got all that off her chest, I have some news
for you. The anthology Open Doors which features my short story, has last time
I looked, made it to number 5 on the top 100 best sellers list for anthologies at amazon. YAY!
The book fair was a huge success with over 40,000 entries! This means that
there was a lot of awareness raised to help gain support for diabetes! This
support will continue with a percentage of all profits from certain physical books
until the end of October. If you want to help, than you can certainly click here and buy the paper book edition of Open Doors or any of the other books listed under my
banner for Melynda’s Labor Day Blogfest and Book Fair.
The Nicotine Monster is far from dead, but the battle continues as he is being starved from my body. The physical act of him entering my body has however changed from cigarettes to patches. I consider that a large victory. Breaking "the habit" is more than getting rid of nicotine. The mental and oral addiction of 40 years is a big fight in itself! I know the dangers of replacing one addiction for another, but if lolly pops and carrot sticks will help me with this transition so be it! I know what you are going to say...STICK TO THE CARROT STICKS!! I hear you, but as you can see by the grin on my face, sometimes I just have to do something a little bad for me.
So how about a little encouragement from my cyber friends, and let me know what you tink of Minnie's rules!

Wise words from Minnie. :) And a huge congratulations on the anthology and on the patches. You are moving toward some huge successes. I am very, very happy for you. All good things, my friend. Big hug!
Good job, Minnie. Congrats on the anthology sales that's brilliant.
Fabulous advice from Minnie! :D
Well done on weaning yourself off the nicotine. Patches are great. My sister-in-law has been using electronic cigarettes since the beginning of the year. A colleague at work and her partner tried hypnotherapy - it worked for her but not for him. You will find what is best for you but the main thing is that you want to stop.
These are good tips :)
Hi Siv
Oh darn, I was looking forward to that Genie. LOL Great advice.
Congratulations on the book sales and hurray, for a good cause.
Two thumbs up on kicking the Nico-dude from your system. My Mom also quit after many years using lolly pops. She said it helped her with the hand to mouth motion.
Nancy
Love Minnie, all great advice, now if she'll just pound it into my sub consciousness so it's always there when the doubts appear...I'll do this!
Minnie is so wise!
And that is great news on the anthology, Siv. Congratulations.
Congrats on the anthology! And hang in there with fighting the nicotine habit. My hubby and I quit smoking more than 20 years ago. We were 2 1/2 pack a day people -- EACH! I depended on blow pops to help me through it. Since they had gum in the middle, it was an added treat! :) Wishing you the best!
How could you NOT enjoy Minnie's pearls of wisdom!
Good job, Minnie! You know your stuff.
Keep up the good work SIS ..... hopefully that monkey will be off your back soon!
Great words of wisdom!
Great news about the smoking! That means you're a non-smoker now, congratulations :-)
Wow! Number five!?! That is awesome. I'm so happy for you. I can dream of a ranking like that someday, but for now, I'm going to live vicariously through you. Is that okay? *raise glass* To making it to #1!
Congrats on quiting woman! You can do it. I'm struggling big time too. I really hope you stick to it. I like Minnies rules. They are important and viable to any writer. (Was that wordy enough? lol) Open Doors is doing amazing on the charts! Congrats!
Wonderful tips, Minnie. Always be true to yourself.
Rules to live and write by! Wonderful!! Awesome news on the anthology. Congrats! I had an addiction years ago and it was the single most difficult thing I ever did, giving it up. One day at a time, Siv. One day. You can do it.
That Minnie is one wise lady, I love her!
Congratulations on the anthology and on giving up smoking. As someone who once burst into tears because she couldn't find a lighter for her cigarette, and who has been off the cigs for 3 years and 9 months now, I can tell you it WILL get better!
Your Nicotene Monster sounds a lot like my self-sabotage monster Bampot :) (I invented him for this month's #ISWG!)
Minnie's rules are great, of course! Glad to hear you made to number 5. That's a powerful number anyway.
Hugs and chocolate,
Shelly
I like everyone! Why can't everyone like me? *cough*
But seriously, Minnie has some great advice. And GOOD ON YOU for quitting smoking! I wish you a ton of luck with it!
Happy IWSG, Minnie. I smoked for 34 years and have been smoke free for 14. Never thought it would happen. In fact, I saw a commercial for quit smoking on TV and thought I should try that. It was then that I realized I hadn't smoked for 2 years. But in my head I was still a smoker. How'd I do it? The patch and red licorice.
WOW! Congratulations on the huge success of your anthology story. That's incredible. Plus, Minnie is great. I can personally attest to getting better as a writer. I think I've grown so much between books that my third outing will be even better than all the others. So yeah, practice does make perfect. I just wish my brain would automatically flag typos as I work.
