Today is my Story day and lucky for me it falls on the First loves Blogfest, another great party thrown by the master Ninja himself, Alex Cavanaugh. To check out other first loves for movies, books, music and people click on this link. Happy reading!
The Wizard of Oz made me fall in love with the magic of books, music
and movies. At the time colored television had not been around for long, so I was
very young. So young indeed that I cannot focus clearly on the memory, but it
was sometime in the 1960's. The movie was based on the 1900 children's novel,
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum, and after seeing the movie, it was
the first book I bought with my own money. I also had the soundtrack from the movie and
knew all the songs by heart. (I still remember some of them) I staged summer
theater in my garage always staring as Dorothy. My brother and sisters
were forever doomed to the roles of the "Scarecrow", "Tin
man" and "Cowardly lion."
To this day, I dream of having a pair of ruby red slippers just
like Dorothy's. I admit to having a thing for all that sparkles and glitters.
Always looking up, I find the stars here on earth, and in the heavens worth
admiring. The Wizard of Oz covers my first loves when it comes to films, music
and books. Childish, yes…but we are talking first loves here.
By the time I was ready to put away these childish things,
love meant only one thing. In the 70’s, love was riding a motorcycle and listening to “Stairway
to Heaven” by Led Zeppelin. Pink Floyd
posters replaced the family pictures on my walls, and I traded out my Ken and Barbie
dolls with boys that were not made out of plastic. The first one that I fell in love with got
me pregnant and broke my heart when he left. After 35 years he is back in my life again, but now as a friend. To be
honest with you, he actually gave me the first "true love" of my life… a
son. My son is the only first love that grows stronger with time.
First loves usually never last but they are seldom
forgotten. They find a corner in your heart all bundled up in sweet memories. Every
once in a while one of your senses will unwrap a certain memory with a special song, a touching
story, or a familiar face. That is when you know my friends, that first loves never truly die.

Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd, yes!
Great posting on your first loves. I have watched The Wizard of Oz so much that I can sing the Lollipop Guild song like the munchkins. It's a little entertainment for the grand kiddies until they ask me sing it for them in public. :)
Hvorfor har jeg ikke lest The Wonderful Wizard of Oz..hmm, det må jeg gjøre noe med:) Likte innlegget ditt:) Elsker da filmen jeg også:) Ha en flott mandag:)
Wizard of Oz was great!! Loved that movie.

What a wonderful sentiment about your love for your son!

I know that boy.
It's cool that your first music, movie and book loves were all about the Wizard Of Oz! It is a fantastic movie, and the songs are a lot of fun too.
Great post, I've always loved Wizard of Oz.
I wanted to be Dorothy!
Fun post. :)
Anonymous--you would know that boy because it was you :)
One for all three. Very nice! Wizard of Oz used to play every year in New York and I've still never seen the whole film in one sitting. Go figure.
That's awesome having Wizard of oz fill up major first loves. And yes, first loves are sweet memories once the pain fades away. Loved the sentiment about your son. Glad I visited.
I was unsure about The Wizard of Oz when I first saw it, but will always love Judy Garland singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow. No one else can quite compare.
You can't beat a good dose of Led Zeppelin!
I love the song "Somewhere Over the Rainbow". It's so good.
Love can lift us higher than we ever knew we could fly and sink us into depths that seem like we can never climb out of. Love is fine.

Hi Siv! The Wizard of Oz is one of my favorite movies. Thanks for sharing the movie clip. I'm listening to Somewhere Over The Rainbow while writing this. : )
I wanted to thank you for your recent visit to my blog to check out my Reflections Post.
Beautiful and moving post. Thank you for sharing.
Awesome post. I love Wizard of Oz-the movie and music, never read the book. :)
Thank you for sharing your memories.
Evalina, This and that...
Apparently we both had the same first movie love. You have terrific taste :)
Great movie. Great music. And very true about love.
I love the Wizard and yes, I wanted my own ruby slippers. I think it's awesome that you always got to be Dorothy. I did similar things to my younger sibs. I always played with the Princess Leia and Han Solo figures while they got to choose from the other characters. ;)
Thanks for sharing those. I especially love the sentiment about your son.
First loves usually never last but they are seldom forgotten. So true!
