Quick fix

Sometimes we just need to walk away and put some distance between us and the things that are bothering us. Unpaid bills, problems at home or at work…Frustration….Stress…Illness… Avoid these things and run away from it all.

My dock of the bay and "quick fix" in Larvik

You need a vacation from what is bothering you, you need a break. Computer games and TV are easy fixes. You could go to a movie or read a book. We all have our little escape plans. A month from today I am making the great escape and travelling to the states to spend time with my son and daughter who I have not seen in over 25 years. I need a vacation. I haven’t had one for years. Do you need one too? As for today, I need a quick fix and there is only one thing to do, and that is to go sit and watch the tide roll away. What kind of quick fix do you have?

Hi Siv .. glad you reminded us when you're going - I bet you're so excited as well as a little daunted at the prospect ... but it will be such fun. I am so pleased it's all happening .. Love the Otis Redding song .. just made me very nostalgic .. cheers and enjoy the count down .. Hilary

My husband and I are doing that in a week, not watching the tide unfortunately but going to the woods up north and being around trees and yes there is a lake there, too. Can't wait!

Enjoy your getaway!

Hello Siv:

Now, I go out to the forest or down to the Lake (3rd biggest in Europe). When I was living in Göteborg, I went to the sea or to the forest. In Maine I lived on the sea and took walks along the water or swam in the sea.

When I was a bachelor, I just took off for a week to another part of the States, rented a car, booked a hotel room the first & last nights and had an adventure inbetween. I always had great excapes this way and came back to my everyday life refreshed.

Take care,
Mike
ps: Enjoy your visit back home. This is a nice time to be in the States. Trees will turn colors sooon.

I haven't had a vacation since I was pregnant with my three year old - full pregnant, so it wasn't much of a vacation. I need the sound of ocean waves or just the peace of still water.

Twenty-five years is a long time.
My quick fix is a movie or playing my guitar.

That dock and the water looks like a beautiful place to rejuvenate the soul. What an exciting trip this will be for you. Can't imagine such a long time away from your kids. We're off to the Grand Canyon soon which is so very, very different from our usual scenery.

My quick fix...listening to music. Or sometimes I take a walk or bicycle ride. Or if I drink enough wine I just fall asleep and the worries are gone. HAHA.

You are going to have an awesome time. I am so happy for you.

When I can't deal with things a second longer, I stop everything and write something non-novel related and turn on Food Network. It really does help.

I'm on a sort of vacation right now. It's been great, but unfortunately I can't unplug completely right now. Maybe for Christmas!

Hope you have a great one - sounds like you've earned it!

Everyone needs time -- away from home or away at home.
I like short trips to visit someone or to be alone best.
