My Favorite Things

t
Our favorite Ninja, Alex Cavanaugh always holds the best parties. This time he wants us to bring our favorite things to the party. More specifically, our 4 favorite genres of Movies, Music, Books and a guilty pleasure from any of those three. First it should be said that I basically love all kinds of movies, music and books depending on the mood I am in at the time. Usually I tend to base my decision on things like actor, director, producer, writer and musician rather than genre. I will give you my best shot anyways.
Movies: The Classics (OK, maybe this is not a genre. It should be!)---Big Alfred Hitchcock Fan. Nothing is better then sitting at the edge of your seat in suspense and then getting a twist at the end of the movie that you never saw coming!

Music: Roub. I love reading at night under the covers.

As for my guilty pleasure I focus my attention on movies and give you MUSICALS, especially vintage ones like My Fair Lady, South Pacific, Singing in the Rain and the following which always cheers me up! Come back on Wednesday when Eye Spy takes a look at The Gods of Norse Mythology.

So tell me, what are some of your favorite things?

I love your music choices. Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin are great bands!

I love musicals too - but not The Sound of Music (sorry!!)! Also, anyone who loves Led Zeppelin is seriously cool!

Being from Michigan, I too love the old time rock n' roll, especially Bob Seger's "Old Time Rock n' Roll." :) Zeppelin is awesome too.. Great concerts. Been to see them both and every now and again you can see Bob Seger out n' about in town, pretty cool. :) - Great post.

Led Zeppelin rule! Singing in the Rain is awesome - I always have those tunes stuck in my head :)

I think classic movies is a genre!
Thanks for participating in my blogfest. It is one big party today!

Your selected movie genre is cool! Sometime very good to (re)watch old black-and-white classics.

And I haven't got any problem with your music genre. ;)

That's a great idea to bring your fave stuff to a party. So it's easier to find a topic to talk about when you meet someone you don't know that well.

I'm also a big musical fan, my fave one is Chicago. I don't like horror movies that much, I prefer something to laugh or think about. I really enjoyed watching The Prestige and Lost in Translation.
Music, well, I hear almost everything - like you depening on my mood. The same is with books, I don't have a genre I prefer. But maybe as a writer it's better to like more different things, to get more point of views on things you can write about.

Great blog post!

Music and books, triple yes! You rock!

Led Zep! Absolutely. And I still get weepy during certain parts of The Sound of Music.

Great choices! Especially Zeppelin and Floyd!

I love your movie choice: the classics. I have a CASABLANCA poster on my wall where I can see it upon getting up in the morning. Friends shake their heads at me as Enya is followed by Santana!

I think it's interesting that the "Favorite Things" song has become a Christmas song in the last decade or so. Before that, I never used to hear it played alongside Christmas carols.

Great Bloghop, and love all of your favorites, especially the classic movies, oh yeah, they are the greatest!

I now want to watch a Stephen King flick!

It's so ALL ABOUT the 50's and early 60's musicals!

I agree with that for sure.

I didn't know you were into the HORROR thing. Suspense I can totally get into for sure.

Always good to learn more about my big Sis.

Hi, Maria,

As a child, I loved musicals. Don't read horror though. Too much of a scaredy cat.

I've never actually read Stephen King, besides his book On Writing. I've been meaning to try one of his other books!

Listening to Zeppelin takes me back to my youth. I still know every song by heart.

Our genre choices didn't quite match, but I'm absolutely with you on Classic movies (esp. Hitchcock), great old musicals, and old time Rock & Roll...although I think my old time is a tad older than yours.

Hi Siv
I think Koontz could classified under suspense as well as horror. I usually avoid horror, but I love Koontz. I always keep a tablet nearby to record the new words he uses and the way he uses them.

I can't believe how lucky you are to live in Norway. Hard to not appreciate Pink Floyd :) Musicals are pretty painful to me though ;)

I picked YA books for my favorite book genre, cause I do LOVE YA.

But...Some of my all time fave writers are Stephen King (I've read almost every book he's ever written).

I used to be a huge Koontz fan, but not so much over the last few years. His style has changed and I don't enjoy his new books as much. That's not to say I don't want to check out the new Odd Thomas!

And I have to ask, if you love King, have you read The Gunslinger Series? LOVE those books!!

Christine Rains said...

Great list! I love a good classic or musical film now and then too.

S. L. Hennessy said...

I am the biggest Hitchcock fan ever. He was the master of suspense. Terrific pick!

LynnRush said...

Yay, Julie Andrews. That's an awesome song. :) Great post!!

Lauren said...

I usually base my movie choices on those things too, so it was a little hard to choose four genres.

I love musicals, too! They're such a fun genre.

Cynthia said...

I too enjoy musicals, and I've read stuff by Stephen King and Dean Koontz. You have a wide range of interests. Thanks for sharing!

By the way, my little sister was sitting beside me while I wrote that last comment, and she had a lot of fun with your adorable little cat feature in the corner. :)

Gotta love Rock n Roll and musicals...these are on my list too, though they didn't make it to my blogfest post on FlashTyme...so many choices, and we could only choose one at a time:)

KM Nalle said...

I grew up reading King and Koontz, which probably explains a lot. LOL.

I do love a good musical though, and frequently have the urge to break into song after watching one.

Great taste! Love old rock. Learning to appreciate old movies. Adore musicals.

So I also love old musical movies like The Unsinkable Molly Brown and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. :-)

I do love a good horror story as well. And as for Broadway music, who doesn't love songs from The Phantom of the Opera, Evita, and Cats?

Denise Covey said...

Hey Siv, I totally dig all your choices. I see Pink Floyd has come up several times which is great!

I love classics and old musicals. My favorite - On the Town. Have you seen it? Great movie about sailors on leave in New York. Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra. Brilliant.

Dropping by from the Genre Blogfest. I can't quite enjoy or appreciate your genre, but hey, what would be a blogfest if we all liked the same thing. :)

Pink Floyd is my favorite! I just love them! I also watch the Sound of Music at least once a year and have the soundtrack. :)

I can't wait to see what the post will say about Norse mythology. How fun!

Oh I'm so sad! How cold I forget musicals. The Sound Of Music holds an honorable place on my movie shelf. AND ircead the first Blu-Ray disc I ever bought!

Hitchcock made some excellent movies- good choice and there is nothing wrong with Pink Floyd either1

I love Hitchcock, but I've never been into musicals, except for The Wizard of Oz.
