IWSG: THE SURGE

Have you felt the writers “surge,” (the rate of change of acceleration) or do you even know what I am talking about? Let’s say you have an idea and you start to write something, maybe what you are writing is a book, maybe not. At first everything is fresh and exciting, the words just flow and then one day they stop. You stare at an empty white page and wonder to yourself, what happened---where did the words go? Everything you write is stale and boring. You have become bored and maybe you even blame it on your muse. You just sit there and write stupid words that make no sense then you get up and do something else for a while, only to return to the same empty page. Backspace and delete are starting to become your most common keys. Does this sound familiar?

How do you deal with the lazy state of your creative mind? I do not have the answer, but I think our brains work on absorbing electrical currents or stimuli. Try picking up a book and reading whenever you can, before bed works the best for me. I have found myself often absorbing the creativity from other author’s words at night while I am asleep. They seem to enhance my own creativeness and send a “SURGE” of renewed life into my words. I think of myself as a kind of Dr. Frankenstein as I write this----- "My words were dead, so I found other words that promised life, stuck them together, gave them a jolt and created a new idea."

Maybe this idea sounds a bit crazy, but it comes from someone who is happily writing in a “Surge” of refreshed optimism. On the other hand this whole surge thing could be the lack of sleep created by the “Viking” mice in my walls and too much coffee. What do you think?
