Jinxed or cursed

"I think my hair is jinxed"
All through the month of April, Minnie will help me explore the people, places and things that WE call creepy, strange and downright weird. To be honest, Minnie finds almost everything creepy and strange so having the entire alphabet at our disposal is going to be a challenge. You might find what we discover delightful, or you may agree with us. Please share your opinions either way. Have fun road-tripping the Alphabet by visiting others doing the challenge as well. Jinxed

The term Jinxed means a person or thing that is believed to bring bad luck. One of the most famous bearers of bad luck was Actor James Dean's 1955 Porsche Spyder.

He had it extensively customized and affectionately called it his "Little Bastard." Apparently, the car was so transparently evil that Sir Alec Guinness, said to Dean over lunch, "If you keep driving that car you will be found dead in it by this time next week." Guinness proved to be right and Dean was killed instantly after his car crashed on September 30, 1955, near Cholame, California.

The jinx or "curse" didn't stop there; when mechanics tried to repair the wrecked car, it fell on one of them, crushing both his legs. The car's new owner sold the engine and driveshaft to two racers; one lost control, hit a tree and died instantly, the other was injured when his car locked up and rolled over. Two thieves who tried to take pieces of the car were both injured. The car was then donated to a safety exhibit of the California Highway Patrol; the first exhibit caught fire, and the car fell on a student at the second, breaking his hip. It even managed to crush and kill a truck driver who was transporting it. The car has since disappeared, but parts of it are most likely hard at work jinxing whoever comes near it.

Sounds a bit like Stephen King's book "Christine" doesn't it? "Little Bastard" has been the inspiration for several works of fiction. Processed or "Jinxed" vehicles are definitely creepy. Here is a list of creepy stories with Jinxed or cursed vehicles:

Christine, a 1983 film adaptation
The Car, a 1977 film about a killer car
From a Buick 8 (2002), another novel by Stephen King about a mysterious car
"You Drive", an episode of The Twilight Zone
Route 666, an episode of Supernatural about a possessed truck.
"Black Cadillac", a 2003 film about a car that stalks its victims relentlessly.
"Sally", a 1953 short story by Isaac Asimov.
"Alice", a episode of Star Trek: Voyager about an intelligent shuttlecraft

Do you know of something or someone that is jinxed? Did you know about "Little Bastard"? Have you seen any of the movies above and do you find them as creepy as we do?

Hope that everyone has a great week-end! Minnie and I will be back tomorrow with the letter K.

Illuminati

"Secret member, who me?"
All through the month of April, Minnie will help me explore the people, places and things that WE call creepy, strange and downright weird. Illuminati

One of the favorites for conspiracy buffs, the Illuminati refers to various organizations claiming to have links to the original Bavarian Illuminati or similar secret societies that allegedly conspire to control world affairs. This is supposedly done by masterminding events and planting agents in government and corporations to establish a New World Order and gain further political power and influence.

Favorite Illuminati Symbol: The All-Seeing Eye.  New World Order Currency: The all-seeing-eye on the dollar bill. Below the illuminati pyramid/eye symbol are the words: "Novus Ordo Seclorum," which can be translated as: "A new order of the ages"

The Serpent promised Adam and Eve that their eyes would "be opened" if they ate of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. The key word in this passage is eyes, which in Hebrew can be translated "knowledge." Opened can be translated "broadened." What the Serpent promised Adam and Eve was that knowledge would be broadened if they ate of the forbidden fruit.

But the most foreboding aspect of this Scripture emerges from the fact that the Hebrew word for "eyes" is not plural, but singular. What the Serpent actually told Adam and Eve was that their "eye" would be broadened by knowledge.

The "eye" that Scripture wants us to consider is not the physical organ of sight, but the eye of the mind or the soul. This singular "eye" is called the "third eye" of clairvoyance in the Hindu religion, the eye of Osiris in Egypt, and the All-Seeing Eye in Freemasonry. (SOURCE: John Daniel, Scarlet and the Beast , Vol. III, pp. 6-7)

So what do you think, are there secret societies like the Illuminati out there? If so do you think they are plotting for a new world order? Sounds a bit "Nazi" to us and definitely creepy.

Groom Lake

"Anyone for a swim?"

Groom Lake

For those of you that wanted to hear about ghosts today you will have to wait...I do have a chilling, creepy story about haunting to tell tomorrow, but falling into the category of strange today is Groom Lake. Groom Lake is a salt flat in Nevada used for the Nellis Bombing Range Test Site airport, but it is better known as the name given to a famous “secret” military base also known as Area 51. There is no beach here and according to the government the existence of “Area 51” has been generally denied, in practice the area is part of an extensive training and testing range run by the United States Air Force.

It is believed that the base has been used as a facility for developing and testing new experimental aircraft and aviation technologies. It is also famously connected to the UFO phenomenon and conspiracy theories suggest that the United States is testing either captured alien spacecraft or new vehicles based on alien technology. The small town of Rachel is located near Groom Lake on the aptly named Extraterrestrial Highway and it is a popular tourist destination. Tours taking visitors to the famous “trespassers will be shot” signs at the very edge of the restricted area 51 are a popular attraction.

Area 51 has been featured in numerous films, books and television shows for many years including movies like Independence Day and shows such as the X-Files. It has become a symbol of government cover-ups and alien conspiracies in modern pop culture.

So what do you think? Are there government conspiracies out there? How much do we really know, and how much do we want to?

Flesh Eating Bacteria

Did you think that I was finished with ways of showing you how your own body could creep you out? Well you were wrong! There are those monsters that can inhabit our body... Uninvited, they are terrifying and yes, just plain CREEPY!

To find out more click on picture
Leprosy seems to be extinct, today more and more people are suffering from Necrotizing Fasciitis, or NF. This condition occurs most often in people with suppressed immune systems, such as those suffering from a lot of stress, or diabetes. Drinkers and smokers are at risk too. A wide range of bacteria can cause this flesh- and tissue-destroying disease, and NF is becoming more common. About seventy percent of all people suffering from NF—diagnosed and undiagnosed—may die, so CHILL out!

Maybe tomorrow I should save you all from more creepy body facts and find something strange or weird for you. Come back tomorrow and see what the letter G has in store for you. Ghosts? No...that would be too easy!

Eyelash Mites

Eyelash mites

Guess it comes as no surprise that there are creepy looking monsters hiding all over our bodies. So small that we can not see these monsters, let us take a look through a magnifying glass and meet Mr. Mite: he’s about one third of a millimeter in length, and survives by feeding on your skin cells and oils.

Find out more by clicking on this picture

That little annoying eye-twitch that you get sometimes occurs more often in people who see eye to eye with the common eyelash mite. About half of the world’s population keeps these little critters in their lashes. Except for making your eyes itchy, the common eyelash mite doesn't really do any harm. Early morning itching and irritation is common with these mites because of their aversion to light. They come out at night and mate, lay their eggs on the lashes, and then crawl back into the follicle in the morning, causing the patient to itch. To make things a bit more creepy, Mr. Mite also leaves a good amount of poo around your eyelids. Are you creeped out now?
