Flesh Eating Bacteria

"Pimples can be killers!"
All through the month of April, Minnie will help me explore the people, places and things that WE call creepy, strange and downright weird. To be honest, Minnie finds almost everything creepy and strange so having the entire alphabet at our disposal is going to be a challenge. You might find what we discover delightful, or you may agree with us. Please share your opinions either way. Have fun road-tripping the Alphabet by visiting others doing the challenge as well. Flesh Eating Bacteria

Did you think that I was finished with ways of showing you how your own body could creep you out? Well you were wrong! There are those monsters that can inhabit our body... Uninvited, they are terrifying and yes, just plain CREEPY!

Leprosy seems to be extinct, today more and more people are suffering from Necrotizing Fasciitis, or NF. This condition occurs most often in people with suppressed immune systems, such as those suffering from a lot of stress, or diabetes. Drinkers and smokers are at risk too. A wide range of bacteria can cause this flesh- and tissue-destroying disease, and NF is becoming more common. About seventy percent of all people suffering from NF—diagnosed and undiagnosed—may die, so CHILL out!

Maybe tomorrow I should save you all from more creepy body facts and find something strange or weird for you. Come back tomorrow and see what the letter G has in store for you. Ghosts? No...that would be too easy!

  2. Hi Siv - Necrotizing Fasciitis .. is really dreadful - and awful to get on the face ... I've known someone who had it on their leg and side - but never saw it - they did recover ..

Really gross photo .. thank goodness it's not dark! Cheers?! Hilary

  3. Anyone with that needs a good therapist. As you say, alleviating the stress is the FIRST STEP on that Recovery Road. Yikes.

  5. My husband treated a guy with that--he removed the guy's thigh skin. They used skin grafts to fix it, the same way they would treat a burn victim.
