Jesus Toast

This month Minnie is exploring the alphabet by digging out the unusual, often unexplained and alternative way of thinking. Stories of creatures, places and mysteries that have been passed down to us through centuries tease our imagination, live in our dreams and dare us to explore the impossible. Join Minnie each day as she discovers something unusual in the alphabet.

"The phrase --Give us our daily bread-- has taken on a new meaning."

Six years after a Florida woman auctioned off a partially eaten grilled cheese sandwich bearing the image of the Virgin Mary on e-bay for 28,000 dollars, a Vermont man introduced a toaster that sears the image of Christ on each and every slice it toasts. After hearing about the Virgin Mary grilled cheese sandwich he designed the Jesus toaster which uses patented radiated heat technology to toast the face of Christ on any variety of daily bread, from plain white to whole grain. Thanks to the new Jesus Toaster, you can have the body of Christ with your daily bread. This is not the only kind of wonder bread that seems to popping up all over.

In February 2006, Mike Thompson of Ohio claimed to have found the image of Jesus on his breakfast pancake and immediately listed it for sale on Ebay. His listing got nationwide media coverage and reached a high bid of just under $15,000. The pancake was subsequently proven to be a hoax produced by the use of the “Jesus pan” available at jesuspan.com. The face of Mother Teresa was claimed to have been identified in a cinnamon bun at Bongo Java in Nashville, Tennessee on 15 October 1996. Dubbed the "NunBun" by the press, it was turned into an enterprise by the company, selling T-shirts and mugs, which led to an exchange of letters between the company and Mother Teresa's representatives. On 25 December 2005 the bun was stolen during a break-in at the coffee house.

Maybe not so mystical, but it is definitely interesting how are “Minds-eye” works to create religious images out of everyday normal things. Have you seen Jesus today?

What a picture! Certainly one of the more interesting places Jesus has been seen. Son of Dog, maybe...? Sorry.

I'm interested by the idea of a toaster that imprints Jesus' face. Kind of defeats the point of it being a unique miracle!

My grandson (9 years old) saw this with me and his first reaction was 'yuk!' When I explained it was Jesus it then made him laugh.
Interesting post.

People are nuts enough to buy into all of this religious imagery. There was the Virgin Mary on a tortilla, too. ;) Somehow, I don't think Jesus and Mary would appear to us on food that could spoil. Well, at least they didn't claim the images spoke.

LMAO Great pic!

The Jesus-dog-butt....TFF! How much did that person sell his/her dog for on E-Bay?

Was that a dog's bum or a dog's willie? either way it is gross. Seeing as no-one actually took a photo of Jesus or painted his portrait, our ideas of what he looked like are based on imagination anyway. So - have any of these cooked Jesus things converted anyone?

Visiting from A/Z. LOL; how amazing people can see imprints of people on their toast or burritos, or whatnot. Hubby had a little burned piece of bread this morning, I asked him if he saw anything in it to make us rich. Nope, but it sure tasted good he said :)

I didn't see Jesus in a piece of toast today, but I did see him in other parts of my life today :)

good luck with the rest of the challenge!

I think I want a Jesus toaster! I can't believe that people would actually pay thousands of dollars for an image of Jesus on a food item when they could have the Jesus toaster and see him every morning on their Wonder Bread.
